LKS2 Athletics Success: A Proud Day for Our Pupils
Some children in Lower Key Stage 2 (LKS2) recently enjoyed a fantastic experience as they took part in an exciting athletics event. The children embraced the opportunity to get active, challenge themselves, and represent the school with pride. Taking part in a range of activities, they demonstrated great enthusiasm, determination, and teamwork throughout the event.
St Bede’s Celebrates Successful School Book Swap
St Bede’s Catholic Primary School in Darlington has been celebrating the success of its recent school book swap event, which brought pupils together to share stories, promote sustainability, and enjoy reading in a new way. The initiative gave children the chance to bring in books they had already enjoyed and exchange them for new ones to take home. The event proved to be a big hit, with pupils embracing the opportunity to discover different stories while passing on their own favourites to others.
Year 2 Shine at Hopetown in Darlington
Year 2 pupils at St Bede’s in Darlington delivered a confident and memorable performance during a special visit to Hopetown, Darlington, celebrating the birthday of railway pioneer George Stephenson. The event provided an exciting opportunity for children to bring their classroom learning to life in a real-world setting, surrounded by the historic locomotives that reflect Darlington’s rich railway heritage.
LKS2 Get Creative in DT
Our LKS2 pupils have been busy in DT this week, developing their food preparation skills and having lots of fun along the way! They practised important techniques such as the claw grip and bridge hold to cut safely, explored a variety of textures, smells and flavours while tasting healthy foods, and even had a go at peeling.
Year 6 End of SATs Celebration
Our Year 6 pupils celebrated the end of their SATs in style with a well-deserved treat—chosen by the children themselves! The afternoon was filled with fun and laughter as the children enjoyed an exciting water fight and a thrilling slip and slide. Despite the chilly weather, spirits were incredibly high, and everyone embraced the moment with huge smiles and plenty of energy.
Celebrating Creativity and Caring for Our Planet
We are incredibly proud of our LKS2 pupils who recently took part in Darlington Library’s competition to design posters encouraging everyone to protect and care for our planet. The competition was inspired by the inspiring work of Sir David Attenborough, in celebration of his special 100th birthday year. A huge congratulations goes to Ada in Year 4, whose outstanding poster was selected as one of the winning entries across Darlington! Her fantastic design will now be displayed in schools across the area, helping to spread an important message about looking after our environment.
Reception Celebrate the Month of Mary at St Bede’s
On 1st May, our Reception class at St Bede’s marked the beginning of the Month of Mary with a beautiful and reflective Celebration of the Word. During this special time, the children learned about the importance of Mary and her role in saying “yes” to God. They took part in a thoughtful activity, creating colourful flowers as a symbol of thanks to Mary for her loving “yes” and for bringing the gift of Jesus into the world.
Golfers Shine at Darlington Golf Club
Our UKS2 pupils had a fantastic afternoon this week at Darlington Golf Club, taking part in an exciting and enriching golf experience. Throughout the session, the children enjoyed a range of practical workshops, developing their skills in putting, chipping and even taking on the challenge of long shots at the driving range. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practised new techniques and embraced the sport with enthusiasm.
Year 3 Explore Music and Friendship
Our Year 3 pupils at St Bede’s have made a fantastic start to their new music unit all about friendship. This week, the children have been exploring the different musical notes featured in their song, including G, A, B, C and D. They enjoyed experimenting with these notes and beginning to understand how they come together to create melody.
A Great Start to Golf in PE
Class 3/4 enjoyed a brilliant first golf lesson during their PE session this week! The children approached the new sport with fantastic enthusiasm, showing great effort and determination as they learned the basic techniques.
Sir David Attenborough’s 100th Birthday Card Competition
On 8th May 2026, the world will celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, a true icon of nature, wildlife, and conservation. To mark this very special occasion, St Bede’s Darlington is delighted to be running a school‑wide creative competition for all our children.
Easter Cheer at St Bede’s
There was lots of excitement around school today as our Nursery children, dressed as little Easter bunnies, hopped from classroom to classroom delivering delicious chocolate Easter nests to teachers and staff.
