A Fun and Educational Afternoon
Children in Lower Key Stage 2 at St Bede’s Catholic Primary School in Darlington enjoyed a fantastic afternoon learning about the challenges faced by people with visual impairments while also raising money for a great cause.
The engaging activities helped pupils develop a greater understanding of accessibility, inclusion and the importance of supporting others.
Exploring Life Without Sight
Throughout the afternoon, the children took part in a variety of hands-on challenges designed to give them an insight into the experiences of people living with visual impairments.
Activities included navigating a blindfolded obstacle course, building Lego without using their sight, testing their knowledge in a guide dog quiz, exploring objects through touch and designing their own inclusive school. Pupils even had the opportunity to try making their own balloon puppy.
The activities encouraged teamwork, empathy and problem-solving while providing plenty of fun along the way.
Special Visitors Make the Day Memorable
A highlight of the afternoon was the visit from the school's Guide Dog friends, who shared valuable experiences and helped bring the learning to life.
A huge well done goes to Wallace and Cody, who clearly enjoyed their time at St Bede’s and were a big hit with the children.
Looking Ahead to More Opportunities
The visit provided a memorable and meaningful learning experience, helping pupils develop their understanding of inclusion and the ways in which communities can support one another.
St Bede’s would like to thank the Guide Dogs team for joining the school and making the afternoon so enjoyable and informative.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already looking forward to more exciting opportunities like this next year.
