This week, our KS1 children at St. Bede’s Catholic Primary School enjoyed a fantastic local area fieldwork walk as part of their geography learning. Equipped with special spotting sheets, the children explored their surroundings and identified eight different human and physical features — from buildings and bridges to trees and rivers.

As they walked, pupils discussed whether each feature was human‑made or a physical (natural) part of the environment. They showed excellent observation skills, brilliant teamwork, and a real enthusiasm for discovering more about the world around them.

The class will now be using this experience to launch their next English unit, where they will be learning how to write a recount of their walk. This will be a wonderful opportunity to build vocabulary, practise sequencing events, and reflect on everything they noticed during their fieldwork adventure.

A huge thank you goes to our parent volunteers who joined us. Your support helped make this hands‑on learning experience both possible and enjoyable for the children.

To continue the conversation at home, you might like to ask your child:
“Do you know if they are human features or physical features?”
See what they remember from our exciting exploration!
